National Studebaker Foundation Awards Scholarship
Sunday, June 17, 2007

The Studebaker National Foundation awarded its first Larry Miller Memorial Scholarship in memory of Larry Miller of Gering, Nebraska, an avid Studebaker enthusiast.  Alexander Janke of Waukesha, Wisconsin received the $750 award and traveled to Nebraska to meet Mary Miller, who founded the scholarship in memory of her late husband.

Alex has earned top grades in his WyoTech Collision-Refinishing programs as well as in his Applied Service Management, Street Rod, and Trim & Upholstery classes.  It was in his Upholstery class that he had the chance to work on a 1950 Studebaker.  When asked about what goals he has in mind for himself once he graduates, Janke said, "I want to be very well rounded when I leave WyoTech. I want to restore as many cars as I can in the course of my life because I believe cars are a major part of history."

It was this dedication to automotive restoration coupled with his exemplary academic performance that made Janke the clear choice for the Studebaker National Foundation Scholarship.  "Alex took the time to write about the history of the Studebaker line in his essay and he expressed his love for the cars quite eloquently," noted Scholarship Committee member Scott Christ, "You can just tell he's going to make it his mission to keep Studebakers out of junk yards and in prize showrooms where they belong."

First Mark Metz Memorial Scholarships Awarded
Tuesday, January 02, 2007

The WTI Foundation recognized two outstanding automotive students in December 2006 with the first round of Mark Metz Memorial Scholarship Awards.  Michael Marcink of San Diego, California and Patrick "Joel" McPherson of Shingle Springs, California each received a $8,450 tuition scholarship.

These awards were presented in memory of Mark Metz, a WyoTech student who lost his life in an ATV accident while attending WyoTech's Laramie campus.  Mark's family established the scholarship fund to honor Mark's lifetime love of automotive technology and his dream to work in the automotive industry.  Over the past year, the Metz Family has organized three major fundraisers in their hometown of San Marcos, California.  They plan to continue these annual events in order to fund scholarships for automotive technology students from California.

For more information, visit the Mark Metz Memorial website.

2006 Edelbrock Scholarship Announced
Tuesday, October 03, 2006

Vic Edelbrock Jr. of the Edelbrock Corporation and WyoTech announced that James Crowe, a native of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, is the recipient of the 2006 Vic Edelbrock Sr. Scholarship. Crowe was selected from 13 potential candidates by the WTI Foundation and Vic Edelbrock Jr.

"The competition for the Edelbrock award was extremely tough this year, as it is every year." said Dale Eslinger, WTI Foundation Executive Director. "There were a few students who demonstrated the academic accomplishment, work ethic, and character that befit the Edelbrock Scholarship but James Crowe certainly rose above them all. Along with a near-perfect academic performance, perfect attendance, and an undeniable passion for the automotive industry, James came highly recommended by his WyoTech instructors and peers. He is polite, optimistic, and forward-thinking. These traits, combined with his life-long love of technology, made him the clear choice for a scholarship that honors the values of an industry leader like Edelbrock."

James Crowe had this to say regarding the award: "Receiving the Edelbrock Scholarship was a huge honor. It was really meaningful to me to be rewarded for my hard work in school and the scholarship will help me pay for a good part of my educational costs. More than that, though, is that Edelbrock is supporting the industry I love and I feel even more a part of the future of that industry. I am so grateful and proud."
